Didiscus Blue lace flower is an annual and so pretty to press. Easy to grow from seed but it's hard to find the seed here in America. My step daughter got them for me from the UK and they are super easy to grow. They also come in pink and white but I'm only getting a few pink so far and no white even though I planted both, darn. The white dries to a pretty cream color shown on my fabric design in the chair photo found on my fabric wedsite Spoonflower. Click on the link to the right of the blog to see my fabric, wallpaper, peel and stick wallpaper and gift wrap.
Anemone japonica 'Pamina' and 'September Charm'. My favorite late blooming perennials for the garden. Easy and low maintenance , zone 5-8 , 2-3' tall, great for cut flower bouquets. Medium watering requirements. Deer tolerant resistant. Blooming August through September. Great for naturalizing.
Spiraea japonica 'Goldflame' is one of my little favorite shrubs. Plenty hardy zone 4-8 , 3-4' tall and wide for full sun with rose pink flowers. Great fall foliage color on new growth. I give mine a light hair cut after it blooms and then it comes out again with the autumn leaves and flowers so I get two blooming's, it happens so fast I wonder if I could get three blooming's.
It is deciduous , not an evergreen plant.
Chihuly glass flowers in Seattle solarium exhibit was a treat to see in my home town. I love this shot through the glass with the Space Needle in the sky. The orange and yellow with the blue sky are inspiring. A must see if you come to Seattle , Washington. Amazing color combinations Dale Chihuly uses, so much fun!!
Here is an example of some of my pressed floral and watercolor designs on fabric for home décor. This is the faux suede, so pretty in person. Clematis durandii is one of my favorites because of the indigo periwinkle color, my favorite color. Here it is climbing or I should say this variety is not considered a climber, it doesn't cling to it's support. This one you will have to tie to the tree with stretch plant tape. Other clematis that are climbers would be great and would cling. This one is a great one for cut flowers because it has about 10" stems and blooms all summer. Zones 5-9 , grows 3-6' high and a width of 5' with blooms 3-4" wide, gorgeous!!! For heaviest blooming prune back to 12" high in early spring. Would also be great meandering through small shrubs.Cheryl Welchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12349932420632104347noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5248494245354530293.post-90887377354586768502016-09-20T16:25:00.003-07:002016-09-20T16:25:37.815-07:00New Front Yard Garden

New front yard garden that I made 10 feet wider so now about 15 foot wide. I moved plants that needed more sun from the back yard to the front yard where there is full sun. It's great to have a wide border enough to have the structure of small trees, step down to small shrubs that have both deciduous and evergreen so there is winter interest. Then step down and add small ground covers and perennials with the same mix of evergreens and deciduous that all blooms at different times so you always have something blooming. Then to have all summer color add in some annuals in the garden and a border. I have people stopping by all the time to ask what a plant is in the garden, nice to get to know my neighbors. Always fun to have a big splash in the front yard. I think it's warm and friendly to have flowers in the front yard.
Cheryl Welchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12349932420632104347noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5248494245354530293.post-63429096527787550592016-05-24T13:10:00.002-07:002016-05-24T13:30:18.173-07:00Black Lace Elderberry Sambucus nigra bush shrub berries attract birds

Beautiful Black Lace Elderberry Sambucus nigra with berries for the birds or made into elderberry wine or jam. Lovely pink flathead queen annes lace like blooms with dark black lacey leaves. Super easy to grow, cold hardy to zones 3-8. I took cuttings from a friends plant early spring, about 6 stems, 12 inches long, trimmed the lower leaves put one third of the stems into soil in a good sized pot about 12" tall and 10" wide is fine , stems spaced 3-4 inches apart and kept watered in early spring. The stems were about pencil width and that is all there is to it. By the end of summer you will see new growth and then plant it into the spot in the garden to go into winter. My plant is about 2' tall and 2' wide now from last years cuttings and will get to 5' x 5' eventually , even taller if you let it get tall but I keep mine trimmed back to keep it bushy. Here's a popular grey and cream fabric from my spoonflower shop that I used to make curtains. It has a texture in the design that looks like burlap and I chose the cotton linen fabric. Here is the link: http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/2872322-grey-cream-leaves-by-mypetalpress I will put up a photo soon of the actual curtains. Wallpaper and woven removable wallpaper decals with other colors are available too on the Spoonflower site. I have some tile decal designs I will put up soon too. Some really fun pressed flower fabric to use for so many sewing projects that I will also be posting soon. I made a cotton knit pencil skirt out of my multi pressed flower design that I love too. Here is the link to that fabric : http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/4990511-multi-flowers-by-mypetalpress
I get allot of orders for light switch plates and now I have something new. It's a decal sticker to put over your existing switch plate. It's made out of poly woven fabric that you can wipe clean. It's removable with no sticky residue and repositionable. You could change them for a seasonal look for the holidays or just a change in décor. There will be allot more decals in my shop soon. Endless fun with decals and art!Cheryl Welchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12349932420632104347noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5248494245354530293.post-71906397889083894792015-10-09T13:34:00.002-07:002015-10-09T13:34:31.118-07:00Botanical Sketchbook art on fabric

I have sooooooo many favorites and yes they are usually blue, my favorite color! This is Blue Sky Delphinium with a little rain from the evening before. I love getting two blooming's out of them but you really have to keep after the slugs and they love a good rich soil and fertilizer. Gorgeous Right! I have a close-up of one of the blossoms in my Spoonflower Fabric shop, here's the link directly to it:
http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/3444654 I designed it for a pillow panel and just received the fabric so I can make a sofa pillow for my new blue décor. When it's done I'll post a pic.
Chocolate Cosmos astrosanguineus is another of my favorite perennials and beautiful pressed too. It's hardy zones 8-9 so I do protect them in my zone 7 garden with some evergreen bows during winter. They like partial to full sun and grows up to prox 18" tall. It blooms summer through autumn and is herbaceous (meaning all the foliage dies down for winter) and will come up again in spring. This photo has the morning due on them but they usually have a velvety appearance of reddish brown to blackish and scented with chocolate and it really does smell like chocolate, who wouldn't like that.
Cheryl Welchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12349932420632104347noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5248494245354530293.post-13110133336627557912015-01-21T07:50:00.001-08:002015-01-21T07:52:55.167-08:00Blue Poppy

Well lets start out 2015 with the beautiful Blue Poppy, my all time favorite flower. I found this one and a whole garden patch of these during my trip to Scotland last year, what a treat. Actually my husband spotted them and knew they were my favorite. So many things going on that I have not posted since last year in March, wow! I have plans to add pressed flower projects to my blog along with the gardening tips and photos. I plan to add more digital downloads in my Etsy shop so you can make the pressed flower projects that I make yourself along with instructions to show you how. I am already looking forward to spring in January like I always do. We get teased with some warm weather days in January so it's not unusual to find me out in the garden and mowing the lawn even though winter has really just begun. It's time to make plans for the garden with the seed catalogs in hand and dreaming of something new for the garden. I love fabric and I'm having fun building my new site with spoonflower.com . You can find my page at: spoonflower.com/profiles/mypetalpress

In the garden in mid November I still have a few roses blooming, penstemon blooming and some fall color still going on. I love living on this side of the mountains, here we are in November and still the garden has a few flowers and the ground is workable. I still have plants in pots I have bought over summer that need to get planted but I keep putting it off still. Leaves to rake and plants to cut back. Winter is just around the corner so I better get busy. I even have a few blooms on my ceonothus California lilac. Finally done at the nursery so now I can concentrate on my Etsy website for the holidays and my new fabric designs. Also, news is next year my pressed fall leaves I sell on Etsy for Thanksgiving table décor will be featured in Better Homes and Gardens Midwest edition magazine next fall for 2014, can't wait to see what they have done with their photo shoot that is happening tomorrow. Salpiglossis sinuata is an easy old fashioned annual also called Painted Tongue. It's 12-18" high and likes full sun and comes in all the jewel tones. It looks velvety and interesting veining, one of my favorite annuals, got to have them every year somewhere in the garden or in pots.
Cheryl Welchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12349932420632104347noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5248494245354530293.post-58264069354657727902013-08-20T12:54:00.001-07:002013-08-20T12:54:16.279-07:00Cleome spinosa "Spider Flower"

Ceome spinosa is an old fashion favorite annual of mine I like to add to the garden every year. It likes full sun here in the Pacific Northwest but will tolerate some shade in hotter regions. It's about 3-4' tall and in my front yard, people have stopped to say it's their favorite. Also called Spider Flower.
